Summary
Global Product Manager has primary responsibility for the long term success of a broad product portfolio with an emphasis on portfolio performance from the growth stage through end of life. For captive screws, s/he aims to double the business in 5 years through dedicated actions. S/he drives optimal performance of product portfolio while ensuring product strategy is aligned with sales (expecting YoY >15% growth), & operational strategies to generate profitable product line growth.
Responsibilities
1. Drive Strategic Alignment: Drive an aligned long term product strategy, ensuring that all goals are aligned to optimize Southco’s resource deployment & long term growth & profitability
2. Product portfolio strategy: Develop the long term product strategy for a broad portfolio of products. Combine customer feedback to identify & advocate for new product & line extensions to serve global customer needs & maintain competitive leadership. Provide direction to the regional teams responsible for the development of modified or customized product to balance customer needs. Develop & manage pricing strategy to maximize profitability.
3. Acquisition Integration: Identify & propose potential acquisition targets. Drive the integration of acquired products & businesses into the Southco portfolio. Assess acquired products, evaluate the global market potential, & integrate into the product portfolio strategy. Develop of roadmaps & pricing models for complementary products, & a rationalization plan for products that do not fit the global product strategy. Oversee & direct the development of all materials necessary to extend new products & technologies.
4. Operational alignment: Ensure operational strategies align with the product portfolio strategy. Provide direction to operation teams regarding cost reduction targets & operational improvements. Work on broadening local vendor selection & assessment to drive cost down. Assess customer impact & approve all significant changes in product manufacturing process or location. Ensure alignment of operational capabilities with customer demand & global consumption.
5. Product Development & Specification Control: Approve any specification changes for existing products. Champion the development of new products & line extensions. Develop & approve specifications necessary to drive new product development. Specify, develop and/or approve training & sales tools for all products. Provide direction to marketing team regarding product specific needs
6. Competitive intelligence: Stimulate & initiate keen sensitivity & awareness to competitor information. Initiate product performance benchmarking & analysis of competitive market & channel strategies. Monitor & assess new competitive threats.
7. Portfolio monitoring & regulation: Monitor & assess all aspects of product performance. Plan, substantiate & approve product pricing for assigned products consistent with strategic business objectives & competitive market positioning. Define corrective actions where appropriate to ensure optimization of quality, delivery, cost, & margin. Develop & execute a rationalization plan for end of life products
Requirements
1. Bachelor degree in Engineering or similar technical background.
2. Minimum five years of experience in product marketing, sales, customer service or engineering. Ten years’ experience preferred in Enterprise related industries. China and global market experience is a sure bonus.
3. Solid leadership & problem solving capabilities. Ability to lead across functional & geographic boundaries. Strong communication skills & influence capabilities.
