About Our Client
Our client is a leading fashion company specialized in variety of products with very strong presence globally. Founded in 19th century, they now have grown successfully across retail, wholesale, e-commerce and licensing channels. To cope with their aggressive business expansion plans in the region, they are inviting a Product Development (Handbag) to join their management team in Dongguan.
Job Description
As a Merchandising Manager (Handbag), you will be responsible for managing the process, from prototyping phase until salesman sample (with involvement in Handover meeting to production team), coordinating the information flow between all necessary interfaces. To ensure deadlines are being met; identify and anticipate critical points during development process and act accordingly.
Other responsibilities include:
Pre-Development phase
*Review allocation plan with Director
*Check and share with vendors the development schedule
*Verify capacity vs. development schedule
Development phase
*Receive and review sketches and the whole development package first internally and then with vendors to evaluate/ensure that:
-no information are missing
-information received are clear and consistent
-project is feasible in terms of construction, materials, MOQ, costs, target price achievement, etc. having clear in mind bulk production possibilities/constraints
*Brief vendors concerning the details of the project. If needed clarify all open points timely.
*Ensure, coordinating with Material Sourcing Team, that all materials used are in line with company requirements (Physical and Chemical tests)
*Verify timing/availability of all materials/components required for the realization of the prototypes
*Provide cutting standards and verify consumptions
*Confirm materials quality and colors
*Follow up timing of the development project
*Support and provide technical solutions for prototypes, checking that they are made according to SRF's (Sample Request Form) specifications
*Verify that workmanship is up to expectations/standards
*Follow up prototypes shipments to be on time for internal meetings
*Report about eventual difficulties/constraints and propose solution/alternatives, in line with designers' expectations
*Timely verify that all provided comments/requested modification after each prototype meeting are well understood and implemented by vendors
*Share information with Technicians for an early assessment of the products during development
Salesman sample phase
*Confirm materials quality and colors
*Provide final confirmations before starting of salesman sample phase production
*Monitor:
-timing/availability of all materials/components required for the realization of the salesman samples
-progress of salesman sample phase production and overview of planned shipments
-quality and workmanship of the salesman sample phase
-labeling and packaging standards
-timely arrival of product's quotations
*Study/prepare/share all necessary information with Costing team for price negotiation
Hand over meeting to Production team
*Prepare all relevant sets of information for every product
*Supervise the handover meeting to review Sales Man Samples and ensure that all comments are transferred to Production Team
*Confirm PPS when needed
The Successful Applicant
To qualify, you will need to possess extensive knowledge/experience in Handbag and Small Leather Goods with minimum of 10 years of experience in accessories-making industry. You will also need to be highly responsible and flexible in a continuously evolving environment. You should be a motivated individual with strong leadership skills. Outstanding interpersonal and organizational skills are essential to excel in this role as is the ability to interact effectively wit individuals at all levels. A good command of spoken and written English and Chinese (Mandarin) is essential. As this is a high management role, so please also expect a certain percentage of travelling within the Greater China area.
